Independiente del Valle stun Boca Juniors to reach Copa Libertadores final

Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle have stunned Argentine giants Boca Juniors to reach the final of the Copa Libertadores.

The Ecuadorians won the second leg of their semi-final tie 3-2 at home on Wednesday, giving them a 5-3 aggregate victory.

Independiente del Valle will now face either Atletico Nacional or Sao Paulo in the final on July 27.

Boca Juniors, who are one of the most successful clubs in South America, were hoping to reach their first Copa Libertadores final since 2007.

However, they were undone by a resilient Independiente del Valle side, who took the lead in the 13th minute through Junior Sornoza.

Boca Juniors equalised through Nicolas Lodeiro in the 25th minute, but Independiente del Valle regained the lead just before half-time through Jose Angulo.

The Ecuadorians extended their lead in the second half through Sornoza, before Boca Juniors pulled a goal back through Carlos Tevez in the 80th minute.

However, it was not enough to prevent Independiente del Valle from reaching their first ever Copa Libertadores final.
