Tim Walz defeats Scott Jensen in Minnesota gubernatorial race

Jensen, a physician and politician, lost to incumbent Governor Walz by a margin of 52.4% to 44.6%

In a closely watched race, incumbent Minnesota Governor Tim Walz defeated Republican Party candidate Dr. Scott Jensen in Tuesday's gubernatorial election. With 99% of precincts reporting, Walz had secured 52.4% of the vote, while Jensen had received 44.6%. The race was one of 36 gubernatorial elections taking place in the United States this year.

Jensen, a physician and former state senator, ran on a platform of tax cuts, education reform, and support for law enforcement. Walz, a former teacher and congressman, campaigned on a platform of affordable healthcare, education, and climate action.

The race was largely dominated by issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Jensen criticizing Walz's handling of the crisis and Walz touting his administration's efforts to protect Minnesotans. Jensen also faced criticism for his past statements about the pandemic, including his suggestion that the virus was a "hoax" and his opposition to mask mandates.

In his victory speech, Walz thanked his supporters and pledged to continue working to address the challenges facing Minnesota. "We have a lot of work to do, but I am confident that we can build a better future for all Minnesotans," he said.

Jensen, in his concession speech, congratulated Walz on his victory and said he would continue to work for the people of Minnesota. "I am proud of the campaign we ran, and I am grateful for the support of so many Minnesotans," he said.
