Chisholm walk-off home run lifts Yankees over Royals to complete sweep

Yankees win 8-7 against Royals after a thrilling 11-inning game

Roylas stay at the bottom of the standings

The New York Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night, thanks to a walk-off home run by third baseman Ezequiel Chisholm in the 11th inning.

The Yankees trailed 7-5 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, when second baseman Gleyber Torres adn right fielder Aaron Judge hit back-to-back singles to tie the game. Right fielder Andrew Benintendi then drew a walk to load the bases with one out, but left fielder Matt Carpenter struck out and shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa grounded out to end the inning.

The Yankees escaped further damage in the top of the 11th, as left hander Lucas Luetge allowed a leadoff single to shortstop Nicky Lopez but stranded him by striking out catcher Salvador Pérez, the DH Ryan O'Hearn and center fielder Michael A. Taylor.

Chisholm came to bat with one out in the bottom of the 11th and he ended the game with a 417-foot home run to left-center off of right-hander Taylor Clarke. The walk-off win was the Yankees' fourth of the season, the most in the major leagues.

The Yankees have not announced a corresponding roster move yet, but Clarke is likely to be optioned to the minors to make room for the acquisition. The Royals fell to 17-38 with the loss, the worst record in the major leagues, and have now lost 10 straight series, including five sweeps.
